Swine & Sea — Old Fashioned — French Creole Recipe

Old Fashioned

Until recently I’ve always been a Manhattan person. I tend to believe I shied away from Old Fashions because it was one of my first bourbon cocktails and bourbon and whiskey were just not a fit for me. Though the artistry of placing a sugar cube with bitters creates a base for a great cocktail, the recipe for an Old Fashioned is simple in ingredients but a show in technique.

Recipe

  • 1

    sugar cube
  • 3 dashes

    Angostura bitters
  • 1 tsp.

    water
  • 2 oz.

    bourbon
  • orange twist
  • Luxardo maraschino cherries
    Step 1
  • Add the sugar cube and bitters to a rocks glass, then add the water, and stir until the sugar is nearly dissolved.

  • Step 2
  • Fill the glass with large ice cubes, add the bourbon, and gently stir to combine.

  • Step 3
  • Express the oil of an orange twist over the glass, then drop into the glass to garnish along with cherries.
